is the e-mail Uwe Paschedag sent with
the images taken at the CJ gathering in Germany. "Last Sunday, the 6th.of July, we had our 750th. SV flat twin meeting in the center of the NRW area (North Rhein Westfalia.) At the bottom of the hill the old castle-ruin "Hohensyburg" is located. It is the oldest bike meeting point in Germany. In about 1925 they had motorcycle races there on the old mountain racing course, so it's a very traditional point for bikers. I had posted the meeting in a German Ural-Dnepr-CJ forum and expected about five, and not more than perhaps ten SV flat twins. The weather was not too good but without rain. The temperature was about 15°C. Wolfgang lives 60km from me in Rheda and he artrived at 10:15 AM with his girlfriend Rike on his flat twin. After a coffee in the garden we started with our bikes from my hometown Warstein-Allagen to the west. As we were a little late, we had to ride half of the 70km on the freeway with about 80 km/h. But it was great to have a ride together with another CJ. At 12:00 we arrived at Hohensyburg on a road that guides you to the top of the hill. There is a casino there as well as the castle ruin. (Unfortunately, you cannot get there with a bike.) There we met a Ural and a Dnepr with their waving riders. The two other bikes behind us, we followed the road from the top of the hill through the serpentines to the foot of the hill and then over a bridge crossing Lake Hensteysee. |
Behind the bridge is the old
traditional bikers meeting point. (In the pictures you
will only see a little part of the whole parking place.)
Beside about 200 other bikes, there was only an old BMW
R35 SV and no other CJ or Russian bikes. But we had a lot
to tell and to talk with the two Ural and Dnepr riders
that followed us. I was a little disappointed because
there were no other sidecars and most of all, no other
CJs. But about 20 minutes later, there came about 15
other Russian Urals, Dneprs, M72 and one original BMW R75
to the meeting point! What a sound and what a picture!
And then the mobile-phone rang and two other CJ riders
close by asked where to find us. Another five minutes
later they were there! It was really great to see the
bikes and the faces known from the forum for the first
time in person. A lot of things to look and to tell for a
few hours! At about 4:00 PM we started up again. Can you imagine four CJsthree of them with open stainless fishtailsstarting to ride up a hill through serpentines at the same time? Really great sound! It gives you goose bumps! Some of the bikers meet again next weekend on a Russian meeting in Oberhausen. The SV flat twin riders of NRW will meet next year again (for sure) or in between on the road." |
